This Teen Girl Is Strong About Her Depression

A young female “vlogger” who goes by the username, “marinashutup,” has recently opened up about her own battle with depression.

“Pretty much with anything I said or did, it was a constant cycle of negative thoughts that made it impossible to feel good about myself,” she said. “. . . the constant negative thoughts kind of made it impossible for me to believe that.”

But after some time, she realized that what she really had was depression—despite her not necessarily feeling “depressed.” She sought out help despite some criticism, and insists that, “Finding the best medication for me is legitimately the best thing I’ve ever done for myself

Symptoms of depression are not always . . .depression. They often can be:

  • Irritability
  • Low Self Esteem
  • Appetite, weight, or sleep changes
  • Exhaustion
  • Lack of motivation
  • Reckless Behavior
  • Anxiety
  • Self Loathing
  • Guilt
  • Lack of Enjoyment

Any of these, usually in some combination, can mean that your teenager is suffering from depression. Watch as this young woman describes her own realization that not only was she depressed, but was—and is—able to move forward.
